A Fruitful Decision

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), almost everybody needs to eat more fruit. Which means that healthy choices are literally growing on trees, yet we don’t take advantage of them. What's your favorite fruit? How can you get more fruit in your diet? Any recipes or tips for adding fruit to our next meal?

It's hard to get alot of fruit in my diet. I like to drink a smoothie every week or so. It is so much easier than munching a bunch of apples. View full response

Eating Outside Of The Box

Trying new things is an adventure. So many times, we make tried and true choices, but could stand for a little change. For instance, have you tried Quinoa or Bok Choy? Both are unique choices that add color and nutrients to any dish. What are some unique healthy foods you like? How do you use them in meals? Do you frequent farmer's markets or other destinations for outside-of-the-box foods?

We go to Farmer's Markets as much as possible and get our produce from a co-op. All sounds very altruistic until you get 4 weeks of red cabbage. Now we know why our grandmothers canned. View full response

Just Kidding Around

It's as if kids have a never-ending supply of energy. Just trying to keep up can wear you out, but that's not a bad thing. Playing with kids is as rewarding for you as it is for them. If you don't have any of your own, volunteering at a local church or YMCA will get you involved. Do you get active along with the kids in your life? How often? Any games or activities you find particularly invigorating?

We horse around. Play in the yard, swing on the swings, jump on the tramp..all that stuff. View full response

Celebration Equals Motivation

Remember to celebrate the goals you achieve, even if it's something small, like eating more vegetables at lunch. You don't have to go all out, but simply treating yourself to a new piece of clothing, or taking some extra time to relax can be deeply rewarding. Celebrating reinforces that what you're accomplishing is important, and — yes! — you can be successful at it. What's the next goal you plan on reaching? How will you celebrate?

Next goal? Less fruit more candy...no really...keep from grazing all day long. Going to try and change my path to and from the front yard...shouldn't be through the kitchen. View full response

Out To Lunch

Eating out for lunch is convenient, especially if you work away from home. However, restaurant food can be shockingly high in calories. How often do you eat lunch out? Do you try to make healthy choices? What can you do to incorporate more food groups into your lunch?

Getting Active Before You Get Active

Summer is right around the corner. That means longer days, going on vacation, and being more active outdoors. Are you feeling the pressure to get in shape? Are you going to do anything differently to prepare? If so, what? If not, what about your current routine has you ready?

Slowly but surely getting a few more miles in my morning walk. View full response
